In this article, we will take a closer look at her musical journey, her influences, and her upcoming shows.

From Billy Joel to Bluff

Yunè Pinku, whose real name is Asha Yuné, was born and raised in South East London. She comes from a musical family, and her diverse cultural background has shaped her musical taste. She was not a fan of electronic music growing up, preferring Billy Joel and Madonna over her mum’s trance music. However, she gradually developed an appreciation for the more chilled-out side of electronic music during lockdown, discovering new genres and artists that inspired her.

She started making music in her bedroom, experimenting with soundscapes and programming. She was influenced by her dad’s collection of ’70s and ’80s guitar music, such as the Bee Gees, The Kinks, and Joni Mitchell, as well as by contemporary artists like Charli XCX, M.I.A., and Yaeji. She initially used her vocals as a backing to her music, but later realized that she could convey more emotion and meaning with words. She began to write songs that reflected her personal experiences and feelings.

Her debut single, Bluff, was released in August 2021 and quickly gained attention for its fusion of garage, pop and R&B. The song is about the paranoia and insecurity that sometimes accompany clubbing, as well as the game of showing your best poker face. The song showcases Yunè Pinku’s distinctive vocals, which are layered and manipulated to create a hypnotic effect.
